TRA Statement on the Recent Race Riots

In recent weeks, we have seen violent riots spread across the country, organised by racist extremists whose only aim is to spread fear, division and chaos.  This is a potent reminder of the racism, Islamophobia and hatred which exists in parts of our society, and which is experienced daily in the lives of so many people who live in Tredworth.

We strongly condemn these riots, and we stand in friendship with all those affected by them.  We are proud to live in a strong and diverse community, where everybody can be accepted for who they are.  We value and celebrate the differences between us, and our children should be able to play safely and build friendships together whatever their background and ethnicity.

We have seen lots of outstanding examples of residents standing together and helping each other, in this neighbourhood and across the country.  This is the strength and power of a local community, and something that Tredworth Residents Association proudly believes in.

Tredworth Residents Association, August 2024

AGM, Thurs 18 Jan 2024

On 18th January we held our annual general meeting. The venue was St James’ Church and around 20 local residents attended.

The meeting started with a vote to change the name of the organisation from Tredworth Estates, Tenants and Residents Association (TETRA) to Tredworth Residents Association (TRA). The motion was carried – so we are now TRA!

Next, the chair Tony Ward and treasurer Tim Rees recapped on what the residents association achieved in 2023. Highlights of the year included the street party and lantern procession.

The committee then stood down and a new committee was elected. The committee for the next year is:
• Chair: Tim Rees
• Vice Chair: Karen Page
• Treasurer: Anthony Saunders
• Secretary: Alison Thompson

We look forward to carrying on the good work in 2024!

Santa’s Grotto, December 2023

On Saturday 16th December, Tredworth Residents Association were instrumental in helping Santa find his way to his grotto at St James’ City Farm! He met around 150 children, who enjoyed chatting with him, having their photo taken and left with a small gift.

Families visiting the farm that day also enjoyed lots of other activities including crafts, treasure hunts and animal feeding.

Thanks to all the staff and volunteers at the farm for all their hard work and enthusiasm!

This event was a partnership between TETRA and St James’ City Farm.

Public Meeting: Thurs 14 Dec 2023

Tredworth Residents Association held a public meeting on Thurs 14 December at Kingfisher Church. Unfortunately a combination of the weather, the location, the proximity to Christmas and a delay in promoting the meeting meant turnout was very low. However, with local councillors and representatives from the police and city council present, it was a useful opportunity to discuss some of the issue troubling residents and ask for support.

Lantern Procession 2024

On Sunday 26th November, Tredworth Residents Association organised a lantern procession through the streets of Tredworth.

Starting at St James’ Community Hall, angels, stars, a butterfly, bears, bumble bees and the Snow Queen travelled along Albany Street, The Laurels, High Street, Victory Road, Ducie Street and Paul Street before ending at Kingfisher Church.

Over 50 people joined in the procession, including children from St James’ School, and many stayed for a while at Kingfisher to warm up over a cup of soup.

The previous weekend, TETRA were delighted to be part of a bigger lantern procession around Gloucester Park.

Public Meeting: Thurs 14 September

The residents association held its first public meeting for a long while and it was a great success. Around 40 residents, including local councillors, met at The Treddy and discussed concerns including flytipping, parking and anti-social behaviour. Although TRA can’t offer any instant solutions, we are considering everything that was discussed and will spend time reflecting on the different concerns raised and how we can support them. One idea could be to have sub-groups to focus on, for example, anti-social behaviour or parking, so do let us know if you have a specific area you would like to be involved in.

It was great to see how many people are supportive of the residents association and we hope to hold regular meetings from now on.
